New Patient Protocol
What We Need From You
For all new patients visiting our patient there are a few simple favours we ask from you so that we can get to know you better:
Some of the information that you have to provide includes:
- We ask that you please arrive to your consultation appointment five minutes prior to your appointment time;
- We will ask you to provide us with your personal information, your medical history, including medications and any oral concerns you have.
- We ask that if you have a health fund that you do bring your health fund card on the day as without this we cannot claim your health fund for you.
What To Expect
We like to ensure that all our patients our comfortable when attending our practice and we understand that a large amount of anxiety surrounding the dentist comes from the unknown. Because of this, listed below is what can be expected at your initial appointment:
An initial appointment at our practice will generally be for a consultation appointment. The reason that we choose to book our patients in for a consultation appointment in most cases is because this allows patients an opportunity to get to know and become comfortable with their dentist, to talk to their dentist before beginning treatment and to receive a quote for their treatment from their dentist before beginning.
At your consult appointment if you have been referred for a specific issue, or you have one specific issue you would like the dentist to focus on, the dentist will examine this area. If you would like a thorough check up, the dentist will examine your whole mouth. Throughout the examination the dentist will be noting anything in the mouth that will be requiring treatment, this is the diagnosis stage of your appointment
Once the dentist has completed your diagnosis they will be capable of explaining to you about any issues that may exist in your mouth and more importantly how to treat them. It is important to our dentists that you understand and are happy and comfortable with any treatment that may be done. Because of this during your consultation appointment your dentist will tell you any treatment options that may exist for your situation and what they involve. Both you and the dentist can then work together to come up with a treatment plan that you are happy with. Once this plan has been created the dentist can also provide you with a quote for this treatment, which includes item numbers so that if you have a health fund you can find out exactly how much they will cover.
When your first appointment is for treatment
There are some situations where it is not suitable for a patient to be booked in for a consultation for their first appointment. This can include for example where a patient is in pain. In such situations our receptionists will book you an appointment to have treatment done on the day where they are able too. When your first appointment is an appointment for treatment it is similar to a consultation in that the dentist will diagnose the issue causing the pain and explain the treatment, however treatment will then be done on the day if possible. It is important to note that at such appointments only the issue causing the pain will be addressed.
What to Expect After Your Consultation
After your initial consultation you can expect the following:
- Your quote will be printed out for you to take home;
- Any necessary appointments will be booked;
- Payment options can be discussed at this stage if necessary;
- Your health fund details will be taken and your health fund processed; and
- Any amount owing will be paid.
