About Our Technology

Here at Wide Bay Central Dental Clinic, we offer the latest in dental technology to ensure that our patients have access to the highest quality care available.

Please find below some information on our newest technology that may assist in making your dental visit more comfortable.

Digital Dental Impressions

We are proud to be able to offer our patients the option of digital dental impressions as an alternative to traditional impressions.

Traditional impressions could be uncomfortable for some patients especially those with sensitive gag reflexes as it required the patient to have a tray that has been filled with a putty impression material placed into the mouth.

Digital impressions assist in approving the comfort of the patient and the efficiency of care provided to patients.

Digital impressions can be taken for dentures, crowns, bridges, splints, mouth guards and in some situations for aesthetic work.

These digital impressions are taken using an intraoral scanner that creates a 3D image of your mouth. The scanner is not large in size and resembles a camera used for the inside of the mouth.

The scan is taken by moving the scanner around your mouth and within seconds an image of your mouth can be viewed on a computer screen by your dentist.

The accuracy of digital impressions is in most situations equivalent to the accuracy of traditional impressions and in some cases, it is argued are even more accurate.

Digital impressions can then be sent to the required lab through email, cutting down on the time that impressions spend in transit.
Please feel free to contact us and ask about our digital dental impressions and the benefits.

CAD/CAM

CAD and CAM are not two acronyms that are commonly heard by most people outside of dental staff, however CAD stands for computer-aided-design and CAM stands for computer-aided-manufacture.

These acronyms relate to the designing and manufacturing of dentures, crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays through the use of the computer. CAD/CAM technology allows us to create and manufacture both two- and three-dimensional models using computer-based machines.

CAD/CAM technology increases the speed of design and creation of dental restoration structures, also can improve the convenience of the insertion of these structures.

This means that study models, crowns and bridges can be made right here in our practice quickly, efficiently and suited to the anatomy of the natural tooth where it is appropriate to do so.

Here at Wide Bay Central Dental clinic in Hervey Bay, we are proud to have the latest world-leading technology in this area, making us able to serve the local community to the highest standards. Please feel free to contact us and ask about our CAD/CAM services.
